TRANSITIONS

MAY 10 - JUNE 14, 2008

Transitions features a series of projects and events pertaining to Manna, a project by Peter Distol, and is a collaboration between SOCO Amsterdam, Fatih-Moskee and Bakkerij Visser. The project revolves around the biblical story of Manna, a grain sent from heaven with the ability to change flavor depending on the taste of the person eating it. Distol presents a contemporary version of the biblical bread as a metaphor for the power of human imagination. The bread recipe is based on scientific research as well as the mythology.

The story of Manna is used as a bridge to a more general discussion concerning the differences and similarities between the three Abrahamic traditions of Judaism, Christianity and Islam. This is further facilitated by video installations, a new Multi-touch table application and a multi-faith panel discussion... bringing together leaders and members of the Hebrew, Christian and Muslim faiths with the intention of propagating an open dialogue of understanding and compassion.

As with previous exhibitions, all works exhibited are made specifically for the SOCO Amsterdam exhibition space and focus on the area in between applied and fine arts.
