REDEFINING THE SPACE
"Redefining the Space" (Nov 2007) will be the third exhibition in SOCO's four-part series "Creative Play, Productive Fun" which investigates how the exhibition space can evolve to better adjust to a developing art world. The first two exhibitions ("Defining the Space" and "Utilizing the Space") introduced SOCO to the public, providing an alternative option to the mainstream methods of production and exhibition of contemporary art. With Redefining the Space , SOCO will continue investigating key aspects of today's contemporary art institution as the interface between audience, artist and financier. The exhibition will feature projects developed for multi-point touchscreen tables, an interactive rubber playground and other architectural interventions. During this time, the public will be introduced to our main goal which is initiating a dynamic new format for a museum of contemporary art and design. The audience will understand the exhibition series as a research project, taking the initial steps toward the evolution of SOCO into The Social Museum of Contemporary Art. This concept will be further explained in the final exhibition of the series titled “Drawing Conclusions” in which elements from our actual business-plan will be exhibited in order to fully explain SOCO's innovative model for "The Museum Without a Building". As with previous exhibitions, all works exhibited will be made specifically for the SOCO Amsterdam exhibition space and focus on the area in bet ween applied and fine art. “Redefining the Space” features new works by Janis Ponisch (DE), Ralph Das (NL), NUI Group (INT), Bruno&George (INT), Lucia Luptáková (SK), Peter Distol (USA), Ronald Nijhof (NL) and others.
